Beauty amidst the mess

"God didn't die to save the perfect people of this world. He died to save the imperfect broken ones. It's in their fractured hearts He finds the most room to make His dwelling, filling every crevice. Its in this we are most able to see God's Hands."

Dear Mr. Candy Man

Well... today was full of homework homework homework so I had no deep thoughts  whatsoever aside from  I can't wait until finals are done!  So,   I decided to lighten the air at the end of my night I'm going to see a movie, but, before I do I'm going to leave you with a repost of a funny I wrote based off a real life traumatic experience I had just before thanksgiving.  :) I hope you enjoy it.

Dear Mr. Candy man,

Please do not create such an atrocity every again!

Today, I went into an office at school I saw what looked like seemingly average peppermints with their red and white swirls sitting in a basket, staring back at me, and calling my name.  Me and my addiction to all things refreshingly mint decided to snag a few.  Upon getting back to my vehicle and opening one I found the flavor a bit odd and confusing. I was left distraught, but it was too late! This was no mint!  This was a fruit  candy cleverly disguised as  a breath mint! WHY GOD WHY!  Now I am stuck with fruity goodness where I once craved minty freshness.

When something is as  visually known  as the classic peppermint swirl candy one should never create a product that looks EXACTLY THE SAME... I have attached a photo of the remaining heathens in my hand to prove my case.  It should be viewed as grievously as identity theft is.  Essentially that is what these little candies  have done, they have taken the well known identity  of a breath mint(externally) but  will never give those  who seek them, unwittingly,  that which they desire.

This is now on my list of things that should never be or have been. Second only David bowie in spandex on Labyrinth(which happens to be one of my favorite movies).

Sincerely,

Your candy critic

Melanie

ALIVE

What Follows is simply a poem I penned not to long ago that seemed to get a lot of hits.  I hope you like it.

ALIVE
Night falls
Darkness beats back day
Clouds cover skies
Random thoughts run
Random thoughts flood
Trying to beat me back
Like wave upon shore
Breaking, eroding, forging
At times
The storms of life
Attempt to blanket
Attempts to shine
to smile
to be
Like cloud covered skies
Holding back the stars
Yet even amidst the turmoil
The brightest stand up
Holding to light within
And faint light sent
Even on cloud covered nights
Makes its' way
showing the dreamer is
and will always be
ALIVE

Important Lesson Learned:

note to self: when cooking brownies it is not only important to turn on the over to the appropriate temperature, follow the mixing directions, and set the timer. It is also important to actually place the brownies themselves into the oven.

Nostalgia

So, last night, I surprised my dad and little sister when they I came home early.  I wasn't suppose to see them at all actually.  Good thing I got a speeding ticket the end of the summer and my paper work came in the mail late, lol.
It's funny, I had a dream bout her  a few weeks ago and then woke up to a txt message on my phone saying "Gabby wants you to call."  In the dream I saw a girl much taller and thinner than the one I left to go back for my final semesters of collage.  Now, in perso,n she looks exactly like she did in the  dream- all  grown up.  My heart melted, and my heart melted even more when she pulled out of the driveway with my dad saying "can we bring melanie."  She  looked like she was going to bust into tears when we said good bye again because she knew she wouldn't see me again until Christmas.   I think I never knew what it was to be emotionally attached until her.  Gosh.  Now I'm a big mush ball.  I may have cried when no one was looking.
But, before she left  we played a game of hide and seek.  It was load of fun... however, this one question gripped my heart as  she lept out from every corner more excited to be found than hide.   When did we loose our want to be found?  When did staying in our  microcosm of self first become our  harbor instead of  being found out by others.  It is a beautiful thing to  put everything out there, even if it gets crushed or rejected, or misunderstood.   I want to return to being a child and have no fears, no akward moments,  just unabashedly  throw myself out there  and find joy in the vulnerability.

Let's Celebrate!

The simple things in life...

So, today, along with setting up this blog, working through my 5 loads of laundry  I brought home with me from school, and doing homework.... I decided to *drum role please*   BAKE A CAKE!  Hence the photo next to this post of the scrumdidilyumptiouse batter.  The cake itself is not done at the moment, but I decided to feature this photo anyways, because  to me the licking of cake batter is one of the most profoundly simple joys in life.  Who realy bakes a cake just to eat it  once it's done?

Hello...

Well, This is my first official blog on my first ever official blog site.  All you who check in here and know me will know I have been an avid blogger for a while  on such mediums  as Facebook, and tumblr,  myspace, and the ancient zanga.  However, this is my first attempt at truly blogging to titillate the senses of others and  make some money for an upcoming missions trip.  :) That's right!  You can make money on here, hence the adds at the bottom of my page.   I'm going to post a few old writings up to get rolling and beg and implore all my friends and family who see this to  pass the word on for others to at least drop in and check out my page.  Each hit and follower  helps! Thank you so much for dropping in  here. YOU ROCK!

Fair warning though!  I think a lot and enjoy writing on everything that comes my way from  thoughts on the out of this world, to thoughts on politics, to  brushing my teeth as i wake.  :) I see life as beautiful and intriguing in every respect of the way so I hope you enjoy this blog and it  takes you outside the box.
